There Goes the Cleric

Approximately August 2015

Session 6

Grey Fish – 4th Level Half Orc Monk
Baphomet – 4th Level Tiefling Warlock
Hamoot – 4th Level Dwarf Cleric
Thane – 4th Level Human Rogue
Gabriel – 4th Level Human Paladin

Thane quickly swam around and boarded the boat and immediately knocked out Black Spider. In the confusion Grey, Gabriel, Baphomet and the three pirate mercenaries with us boarded the boat and started fighting the pirates on deck. Hamoot stayed on row boat and provided support with his spells. Baphomet misty stepped up to the front of a boat where a ballista was mounted and fought the gunner for control over it. Grey, Gabriel and the mercenaries faced overwhelming odds and fought the pirate crew. A pirate berserker broke off from the main fight to aid his captain against Thane so Gabriel went to help Thane. The fight on the deck was going well until three lizard folk and ore pirates below deck came to join the fight. They quickly killed the three mercenaries, forced Grey to tactically retreat to Gabriel and the now unconscious Thane, and Baphomet to dive into the water and swim back to the row boat. One of the pirate began to fire the ballista at Gabriel and Grey. Baphomet threw up darkness onto the boat and boarded the boat without being seen, however this darkness was dispelled when Hamoot channeled divinity to kill off some pirate crew members, which exposed Baphomet. Grey killed berserker and Gabriel used lay on hands to bring Thane back up. The lizard folk ignored Baphomet and instead dived into the water and began pulling the row boat away with poor little Hamoot on board. Gabriel Then shoved the captain off of the deck and leaped off to kill him, which lead to the remaining four pirates surrendering…

Session 5

Grey Fish – 4th Level Half Orc Monk
Baphomet – 4th Level Tiefling Warlock
Hamoot – 4th Level Dwarf Cleric
Thane – 4th Level Human Rogue
Gabriel – 4th Level Human Paladin

As the fight continued the bard was sucked into a crystal on Baphomet’s staff and Hamoot emerged in the place where the bard stood moments before. The cleric charged back to the fight and killed the bandit who the monk tripped earlier. Baphoment continued to throw fire bolts at the enemy spell caster from the inside the darkness he created earlier. Gabriel and Thane quickly killed the two bandits in front of them. In response the gnoll pack lord charged them. Grey and Hamoot eliminated the last gnoll archer and then helped the rest of the party kill the pack lord. The enemy spell caster turned invisible and escaped before the party could subdue him. The party continued to explore the catacombs until they came to an underground cove where three bandits were loading loot onto a 10 man row boat. They immediately surrendered to the party and answered their questions. Through them the group learned that tonight a sail boat was coming to collect the loot the bandits had gathered. They also learned that they needed to find a signal to send to the sail boat, the bandit that escaped was a sorcerer, and that the Black Spider would be on the boat, a drow that the group had killed earlier. Thane continued to load the boat while the rest of the group searched the bandit’s lair for clues on what the signal is. The group found some gold and magic rings, along with a few books on herbs and math. They also found a golden apple along with the philosopher’s stone and a book about it as well. They also found a lantern with three X’s carved into the bottom of it.

The group then returned to Thane and the bandits, who just finished loading up the boat. The group then realised they have no idea how to steer or navigate the boat. The bandits said they would help, but the group instead tied them up since they were untrusted. Fortunately Gabriel’s two squires Reek, a goblin we saved earlier, and Simple Jack knew how to sail the boat. Gabriel however wouldn’t let his squires come since they had no combat experience. The group instead travelled to a nearby fishing village and hired three mercenary’s to help them sail the rowboat. They returned to the haunted house and rested till night time. After sunset a sail boat approached the coast and flashed a lantern four times. Grey responded with three since there was three X’s on the bottom of the lantern. The boat responded with five and the party and mercenary’s rowed over to the sailboat. As they got close Thane jumped into the water and swam around the sail boat to sneak up on the boats crew. On the boat was six pirates and the Black Spider. As the party loaded the loot onto the boat, Baphoment used his telepathy to tell the rest of the group to get ready to attack.

Spooky Houses & Stupid Bards

Approximately happened July 2015

Session 4

Grey Fish – 4th Level Half Orc Monk
Baphomet – 4th Level Tiefling Warlock
Hamoot – 4th Level Dwarf Cleric (Absent)
Thane – 4th Level Human Rogue
Gabriel – 4th Level Human Paladin
Three days later the party ventured out to the Haunted House where the red cloak bandits were supposed to drop off all of their stolen loot from the town. The party was accompanied by a retarded bard whose name I already forget. As the group arrived it became clear that this house was abandoned. The bard circled the house and quickly climbed down the well he had discovered which lead to him being molested by a snake. He immediately climbed back up yelled at the rest of the group for not holding a rope or something. The paladin in the rogue entered the house through the back door and followed a trail of muddy footprints around. The party became suspicious when the footprints abruptly ending at a wall in the kitchen. The group found a secret door and entered a dark basement. Immediately a spooky ghost appeared that cause the monk and warlock to haul ass out of there. Once Grey and Baphomet came to their senses they returned and continued to explore with the group. A secret door was found and opened to a well lit room with three bandits inside. The bandits opened another secret door behind a bookshelf and attempted to flee, but the bard cast a spell and put two of the guards to sleep. The paladin, rogue, bard, and warlock gave chase to the last bandit while the monk stayed behind to “tie up” the two sleeping guards. As the group approached the room that the bandit ran into, they heard voices on the other side. Baphomet cast a spell to make his voice louder in an effort to intimidate the bandit and his friends to surrender. Unfortunately only one bandit came out and he got his throat slit by Thane.

The fight kicked off with Baphomet casting darkness in the middle of the room. Thane and Gabriel quickly ran into cover. Now in the room the group saw two gnoll archers, two bandits, and a huge gnoll who looked like the leader. The bard cast a spell which caused the giant gnoll to fall to the floor laughing. When the warlock entered the room he threw a fire bolt at the pack lord (giant gnoll), but was then hit by a magic missile from another spell caster who was hiding behind boxes. The warlock quickly took cover in the darkness he cast earlier and threw fire bolts out of it. The paladin and rogue abused the sneak attack rules and killed the two bandits and one of the archers. The bard who was hiding at the entrance was flanked as two bandits came from behind him and the pack lord, wizard, and other archer attacked from the other side. The bard ran away and left the warlock, paladin and rogue for dead. As the bard ran away the monk finally joined the battle and immediately rolled a 1 so you can guess how that went. The wizard cast a spell to get the paladin to approach him, but the spell was negated by another spell cast by the warlock. Two of the bandits who flanked the bard earlier charged at the rogue who took allot of hits. The paladin tried to help the rouge but he slipped in grease.

Session 3

Approximately happened June/July 2015

Grey Fish – 4th Level Half Orc Monk
Baphoment – 4th Level Tiefling Warlock
Hamoot – 4th Level Dwarf Cleric
Thane – 4th Level Human Rogue
Gabriel – 4th Level Human Paladin

After the group had finally conquered Tresendar Manor they were assisted by the citizens of Phandalin in removing all of the stolen goods from the Manor and redistribute it to the rightful owners. During this time the party learned of many quests that they could embark on from the citizens. Just as they finished, terrified towns folk ran by screaming that the red cloak bandits were attempting a last ditch effort to retake the manor.  Hamoot and Grey quickly took to the trees while Thane hid in a bale of hay and Baphoment climbed to the top of a bell tower. Five bandits approached the ambush site as well as two bug bears and the group’s leader, a drow only known as Black Spider. The battle kicked off with Thane assassinating the first bandit to approach the bale of hay and Grey leaping down from his tree to strike. Baphoment started to throw down magic missiles from the bell tower and Hamoot cast silence on a rock near the drow. A local paladin named Gabriel quickly came to join the fight and cut down one of the bandits. The paladin’s daughter came to help the group, but was killed by Black Spider. Baphoment threw fire bolts and Hamoot shot crossbow bolt at the bandits while Thane and Gabriel fought the bug bears. Grey went to fight the drow who turned invisible before grey could attack. Baphoment heard the door of the bell tower open and looked down to see Black Spider at the bottom. Baphoment cut the rope around the bell which plummeted onto Black Spider. Baphoment turned into mist and floated to the bottom of the tower to join the rest of the group. The door to the bell tower opened to reveal Black Spider had survived and he proceeded to turn invisible. Hamoot cast faerie fire at Black Spiders last known location which helped the party locate Black Spider. Gabriel charged in and dealt the killing blow to the drow who turned into a doppelganger upon death. The group managed to capture one bandit and the town guard also captured three that they found hiding in the woods. Gabriel went to hold a funeral for his daughter while Thane and Grey brought the bandits back to the manor and attempted to convince them to work for the party. However, once Thane and Grey left, Baphoment sacrificed the tied up prisoners to his god, The Great Old One.

Session Two

Approximately happened June/July 2015

Grey Fish – 3rd Level Half Orc Monk
Baphoment – 3rd Level Tiefling Warlock
Hamoot – 3rd Level Dwarf Cleric
Thane – 3rd Level Human Rogue

After saving Sildar Hothwinter’s caravan from the goblin attack and defeating their leader Klarg the bugbear and his ogre bodyguard, Sildar brought the group to the town of Phandalin. Upon arrival he payed for the group’s night at Stonehill Inn. During the groups time at the Inn they met the Inn’s owner Toblin Stonehill. He explained to them that the red cloak bandits have been taking as they please and have become a larger threat to Phandalin. He explained that the bandits had been harassing a local woodworker named Thel Dendrar. The party insisted that they go to investigate the wood workers house in which Toblin’s son Adam volunteered to take the group to the house the following morning. At dawn the party made their way to the house. Upon arrival it was very clear that there was forced entry. The house was trashed and no one was found inside. As the party continued investigating, the next-door neighbour Halia approached them and explained that she saw the red cloaks abduct the family and that she was sure that the bandits brought them to Tresendar Manor since the red cloaks typically hang out in that area of town.

Once the party arrived at Tresendar Manor it became obvious that the place was in ruins. The party went around back and found stairs leading to a basement entrance. Grey snuck in first through the entrance. He walked through a dark hallway until he came to a large room that was lit very well. It had allot of crates inside and had a pool of water in the center of it that was about 12ft deep. He went back to get the rest of the party before proceeding. As the group entered the room they discovered two doors. One was in plain sight and had voices on the other end, while the second door was hidden under a stair case. The party opened the door which lead into a hallway. Grey and Thane went first into the hallway only to have a trap door open from under them. Luckily their reflexes allowed them to get to the other side while Hamoot and Baphoment slowly climbed across small ledges on the wall. On the other side of the trapdoor was a door that lead to a very dark room. As the party entered it became apparent that the room was filled with coffins. Skeletons began to emerge from them, but the group quickly put them all down. Hamoot than decided to be a nice guy and cast light to help out the stupid rogue who doesn’t have dark vision. After searching the room the group ran into two doors, one on the left and one on the right. The door on the left lead to an armoury that also contained some red cloaks, while the door on the right lead to a small jail that the woodworkers family was being held in, but the wood worker wasn’t there.

The party released their family and brought them back to the surface and then returned to the central room with the pool. They decided to then go to the door with voices on the other end and used the red cloaks as disguises. Inside the room there was some more crates and three red cloak thugs that Baphomet convinced to bring us to their boss since the party was the new recruits. Two of the thugs brought the party back to the main room and pushed in a lose brick to reveal a secret door. As the party went into the room, Thane snuck back to kill the third thug. Thane caught back up to the group just as they passed a demon that was feasting on weird colored flames that were coming out of a large crack in the ground. The bandits said that the creature was the guardian and that we should just ignore it. We continued to the bandit’s leader who quickly realised that the group wasn’t the new recruits. The battle started with Grey and Thane charging the leader while Hamoot and Baphomet fighting the body guards. The bandit leader cast a spell that paralyzed Thane. Grey and Baphoment continued to fight the bandits while Hamoot cast a spell to cure Thane’s paralysis. Thane, Baphomet, and Hamoot quickly put down the body guards, but this lead to Grey becoming paralyzed by the leader. After this Baphomet quickly dealt the killing blow to the leader and Hamoot helped grey deal with the paralysis. The group took everything that wasn’t bolted down in the leader’s room which lead the group to finding a note that told the leader to bring all of the goods they have been stealing to an area that is 6 miles West of the town and just off of the coast. The group also found a tied up goblin named Reek who told the group that a drow had been at Tresendar Manor recently. The group contacted Sildar who informed the group that the destination explained in the note was the site of a haunted house and that they were the new owners of Tresendar Manor.
